Recruiting top, diverse faculty and academic staff is essential for MSU to achieve its strategic priorities.
The university is committed to providing an environment that fosters the values of academic excellence, innovation, inclusion, and compliance. As stewards of this institution, it is our collective responsibility to live by these commitments and take actions that align with this promise. Together, we committed to creating a top-tier teaching and research institution by taking deliberate and meaningful action to acquire and retain exceptional talent from around the world.
This training is designed to ensure that recruitment and hiring for open faculty and academic staff positions will be handled in a consistent, transparent, inclusive, and objective manner throughout the search process. This includes helpful information on the recruitment, evaluation, and appointment processes. It also covers foundational compliance requirements, commitments to equitable hiring, and expectations for implementing best practices at MSU.
The goal is to raise awareness and help prepare search committees to effectively conduct inclusive and equitable searches that meet legal requirements and utilize best practices for hiring. This will ensure that search committee members have a baseline knowledge of the search process before engaging with the unit’s Faculty Excellence Advocate (FEA), hiring guide, or other designated resource. This course is not intended to replace their role in the academic search process.
Search committee members will be notified and reminded via automated email from Ability LMS when training is required. If you are not serving on an academic search committee but would like to view the training, you can do so by logging in to Ability, selecting Extra Courses in the menu and clicking on Catalog Search to search for the course name “Academic Search Committee Education.”
