In August, FASA hosts an orientation for faculty and academic staff who are new to the university. New faculty and academic staff receive an overview of the university, its values, and expectations. They also have an opportunity to connect with campus leaders and access valuable resources.
All full-time academics who are contracted for 90% time or more for two or more semesters are expected to attend. This includes tenure-system faculty, librarians, health programs faculty, FRIB/NSCL faculty, fixed-term and teaching-focused faculty, academic specialists, and senior research associates. Others in these roles at reduced appointment levels are invited, but not required to attend.
New faculty and academic staff will be enrolled and receive a formal invitation to this event.

Each August, FASA hosts an orientation for administrators who are new to their roles or the university. New administrators are given an overview of MSU and various offices and units that collaborate to further the university's mission.
This orientation is required for all new deans, chairs, and school directors, including academic, interim, and mid-year hires. Orientation may also be valuable for individuals new to other academic administrative roles with similar responsibilities (e.g., executive managers, associate or assistant provosts, associate or assistant deans, and Faculty Excellence Advocates). Participants are expected to attend both days.
New administrators will receive a formal invitation to this event. It's required in the first two years of appointment and is most helpful in the first year.
