Each year, the Leadership Institute series allows academic administrators to interact with their peers around key topics. This series of short sessions is designed to expand upon themes introduced at New Administrator Orientation.
These sessions are required for department chairpersons, school directors, and associate deans of non-departmentally organized colleges within the first two years of their appointments; all other administrators are encouraged to attend sessions they would find useful.
This session provides an overview of the MSU budget. Participants will learn details about MSU’s accounts, financial structure, policies, processes, and language. This session is useful to anyone who has financial responsibility for a unit or who supports a unit leader with financial responsibility.

This session addresses the current landscape of the reappointment, promotion, and tenure/award of continuing status processes at MSU. Participants will learn about key ideas, expectations and processes across all promotable academic appointment systems.

Annual performance reviews are a critical piece of the development process for faculty and academic staff. Enacting an effective annual review process for all is a key performance expectation for academic leaders. This session will discuss the elements to include in annual reviews for faculty and academic staff to ensure their usefulness in supporting career growth, recognizing and rewarding meritorious performance, and scaffolding progress toward reappointment, promotion, and tenure expectations. Perspectives on how to manage the review process will also be shared.
